Concentrate!
Tapping into the current of spiritual electricity, stripping everything down to its most fundamental forms. (Essay + Video)
Greetings Everyone,
As hunter-gatherers of fire-born jubilation, passionate artists of reality invention, and spiritual engineers of higher sensation, it’s no secret that we in the Sacred Ecstatics Guild love a good martini. Our preferred medicinal cocktail consists of equal parts cooked sacred emotion + electrically charged music + free body movement. Shaken, not stirred.
But imbibing this ecstatic blend is actually a means rather than an end. What we’re really aiming for is to wake up spiritual electricity, the divine force behind healing, wellbeing, and spiritual transformation.1 And here’s a curious secret: sometimes a lot of physical commotion and untempered expression can actually dampen the current.
How is this possible? The short answer is habit. Too much movement or ecstatic expression of the habitual kind can actually interrupt our ability to conduct God’s electricity. If we have become too accustomed to moving or not moving in a certain way then we easily slip into autopilot and fall asleep at the mystical wheel.
But we’re here to wake up! Which is why it’s good now and then to hit the reset button and strip everything back down to its most fundamental, concentrated forms. Or to invent new forms altogether. And that’s how we’ve begun the new season of Sacred Ecstatics which launched on October 5th.
We’re gently swaying, barely rocking, reining it in. We’re as surprised as you are.
Sometimes the biggest shake-up for a habitual shaker is a bout of stillness. And occasionally the most potent spirit martini is an empty glass of pure, holy wind. The universal life force is found inside the whole circle of creation where natural opposites host the differences whose friction creates the spark that gets everything humming again.
And what caused this surprising change inside the Sacred Ecstatics universe? We previously announced that last spring Brad dreamed of his former teacher, Ikuko Osumi Sensei. She was a healer and master of seiki jutsu, the Japanese art of the vital life force. In that dream Sensei showed us how we would begin the present Guild season: with a focus on “electricity,” a metaphor for seiki. In that and subsequent visions, Brad was shown several new means of tapping into the seiki current within.
But Sensei’s main instruction was this: Concentrate. A higher, ineffable degree of concentration awaits.
During our beginning weekend we introduced these new teachings to the Guild with a series of short videos that included instructions for movement experimentation. We’re sharing the very first video with you below.
Enjoy, and don’t forget to concentrate.
More soon,
Hillary & Brad
What we’re calling spiritual electricity goes by many names: seiki, n/om, holy spirit, ki, universal life force, etc.
Thank you for sharing this practice. I started the practice as I do Seiki sessions, pressing my eyeballs which initiates an inner felt sense and almost immediate rocking. After a few minutes of getting annoyed at trying to say “concentrate” in my head in different ways I started to notice that the way I said “concentrate” dictated how my body was moving because it was aligned with how I was breathing in that moment. It became intense at times and I found my torso moving in a circular fashion- a way that it has not moved before in Seiki sessions- and I almost fell off my bench. When I took a break I opened my eyes and simultaneously felt big and small at the same time, almost as if my body had grown or the room had shrunk and yet I also felt humbled, the way I do standing beneath a Redwood tree.
